Hello! Ecotopia?? One of the topics that came up during the meeting in December 2023 was about the name of the biketour. More specifically, if we want to change it. The name has a lot of history – it was first used as a name of a bus tour and later gathering from many years ago, starting in 1986, then a biketour was attached to the gathering in 1990, and then the gathering stopped happening in 2008, and since then there is just the biketour! This isn’t the first time we have discussed the idea of changing the name. It has already come up a few times in meetings over the last years, but the decision to change it was never made. When we discussed the idea in the last meeting, we came to conclusion that the organisation group is too small to make this decision and we want to ask more people what they think. The main reason we discussed, as a reason to change the name, is to have something that reflects more of the values that we try to practice. Sustainability and the environmentalist approach are still main points on our agenda, however some felt like the name “Ecotopia” can give the impression that we are only that. And since many eco-/sustainability-/climate movements in Europe are very white, ableist and cis/heteronormative, we worry that the name “Ecotopia Biketour” paints that same image instead of the intersectional approach that we want to have. The biketour has changed a lot over the years and has a wider focus than just environmental issues. On the other hand, we are quite widely known under the name Ecotopia, we have lots of connections and it’s easier for us to receive funding, while we have this long history. As a small group we couldn’t reach any decisions or concrete ideas, so we want to ask all previous participants, current participants, hosts, friends and community, what you all think. Spring Meeting 13–15 May 2022

Our Spring Meeting will happen from Friday, 13 May until Sunday, 15 May in Leipzig, Germany. In this meeting we want to make some final decisions about the route, start preparing the transportation of our equipment to the starting point, establish the communication and registration of participants and create and spread promotion material. Anyone who is interested is welcome to join the meeting. The idea is to have discussions on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It is possible to arrive on Thursday evening and leave on Monday morning. Sleeping places will be organized, it will probably be needed to bring a sleeping bag and mat. If you want to join the meeting, please get in contact with us to learn about the exact location. If you want to come to the meeting but cannot afford the journey, we can pay for your travel costs. In this case please get in contact with us. There also is the possibility to join any discussions online. If you want to join some or all discussions, please let us know.

Gender discussion / FLINTA tour

Beloved Ecotopians, In the last years (and probably before), the Biketour has often been a space dominated by heterosexual cis men. Hetero cis men were often over-represented both in the preparation group and among the participants. People have expressed repeatedly over the years that the Biketour is not a very FLINTA/LGBTQIA-friendly space, and people have felt uncomfortable or excluded. After this problem was particularly present on the last Biketour, different ideas have come up to break this pattern. Some concrete ideas that have been brought up are to exclude hetero cis-men or all cis men from certain activities, the first weeks of the tour or the entire tour, and/or to have a FLINTA-only preparation group or get external support from feminist collectives during the preparation. We want to discuss these ideas tomorrow from 09:30–11:30 and from 13:00–15:00 (CET). We invite everyone and FLINTA/LGBTQIA people in particular to participate in the discussion and forming of ideas. Explanation of the terms: FLINTA stands for female, lesbian, inter, non-binary, trans, agender (→ everyone who is not a cis-man) LGBTQIA stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, intersex, asexual (→ everyone who is not heterosexual) cis stands for cisgender. cis is the opposite of trans. A cis person presents as or identifies with the gender that they were assigned at birth and thus profits from cisgender privilege.

Call for community co-founders - Italy

Hello friends, as some of you might know, I'm currently living with another ecotopian, Lino, in the north of Italy (Piedmont region) in a rural house with quite a big land. We're looking for people who would be interested to create a living community with us here in Italy. Below is our call-out and a link to the vision in English and Italian. We live in the countryside in large shared farmhouses with several hectares of land around them. From an economic point of view, we feel it is important to support each other, and we have set up among ourselves ways to do this. Update on the rest of the tour

Hey ecotopians! We have updated the route plan until the end of the tour on our website: Our stays in Ljubljana and Zagreb are already arranged so the plan shouldn't change much unless for some unexpected event. Here is the schedule: * 1. - 5. September: Farm Collective in Deutschlandsberg, close to Graz, southern Austria * 9. - 13. September: Ljubljana, Metelkova social centre * 13. - 18 September: cycling to Zagreb * 18. - 22. September: Zagreb, Medika social centre * 22. September – 1. Hey Abel, concerning the route, we are now staying in the Welten kollektiv at least until the next Sunday I would assume as there's going to be a nice party at the place on Saturday evening. Then we will go either to Graz or directly to Maribor. Either way, it's pretty close to reach us from Graz or Maribor. Maybe write to the communal number before coming to see where we're going to be in the next days. A tent and a bike to borrow?

Hello ecotopians! I am considering finally to join :D but I won't go with my van (it's way too far from Spain). To make my trip easier I wanted to ask if someone would be willing to borrow me a bike and/or a tent (i don't have tent) for a couple of weeks, since next week (last week of August) to first week of September. Also, I would like to know if the route that is posted in the website is correct: ecotopia will be in different farms near Graz since 23rd of August to 4th of September. Specially in order to plan the transport to get there.
